Mark Whiteley’s intimate behind-the-scenes shots, glossy studio portraits, blood, sweat and tears moments, skateboards, motorcycles, shotguns, tattoos, flowers, umbrellas, weddings, streets, stages, hard looks, soft smiles, bedrooms, parking lots, rooftops, sidewalks, legends and unknowns all combine to chronicle the photographer’s vision of skateboarding, music and art. Featuring the likes of Mark Gonzales, Cat Power, Thomas Campbell, Jason Jessee, Twist, Chris Johanson, Ghostface, and Jamie Thomas, and shot everywhere from Alaska to Brazil to Japan to Ireland and home to California. Mark Whitely is editor-in-chief at SLAP skateboard magazine and has shown in galleries in San Francisco, Tokyo and Europe. His photographs have been featured in the books Juxtapoz Photo and Deconstruct.
My goal is to capture and project the feeling or mood I sense in the person, event or place at hand and to visually amplify the emotional output. -Mark Whiteley
