Inner City (London)
The photographs of the Austrian artist Peter Köllerer lead us into Londons Inner City without showing the well-known icons of the center. Instead, we see irritatingly anonymous views of a sensed interior city space. Köllerer traces, with his surrealistic and sensible semiotic eye, the signs scarcely hidden on the surface of the cityscape. This non-representative interior city space, that repeatedly evades all attempts at planning, shows itself in gaps, the interstices and abysses, in the unnecessary barricades and unsuspected openings, the thoughtlessly mended and the helplessly designed.
