Art + Books in Madrid is a pioneering project of Ivorypress, founded by Elena Ochoa Foster. It brings together the normally separate worlds of art and books, creating major gallery spaces with a connected bookshop specializing in art, photography, design and architecture. Ivorypress Art + Books was created out of an existing printing house and garage by architect Norman Foster with Foster + Partners. Ivorypress Art + Books opens in February 2009.
The exhibition spaces are climate controlled to exact museum standards and have full technical back up areas. The main open space is a lofty 800 square meters (8611sqfeet) area and can be accessed through a dramatic entrance ramp directly from the street.
The main gallery has two small courtyards and is flexible to comfortably accommodate audiences of up to 250 people for audio-vision presentations and talks. Although they are linked spatially, the galleries and bookshop can work together or independently and have separate public access from the street.
