Werning graduated in Economics from the University of San Andrés in Buenos Aires, and obtained an MA in History from Tella University, Buenos Aires. She also studied photojournalism at the University of Westminster, London. In 2006, she won the Ian Perry Scholarship and the Gordon Foundation Grant, and in 2007 she was selected for the Joop Swart Masterclass of the World Press Photo Foundation. In 2011 she won Burn magazine's Emerging Photographer Fund.
