Vik Muniz
1961, Brazil
Originally trained as a sculptor, Vik Muniz uses all sorts of materials ranging from chocolate syrup to thread and sequins to recreate well-known artworks or images from popular culture. After first making his own likeness of the work in question, he then photographs these new sculptural “drawings”. Muniz has exhibited in many international institutions and galleries, including the Miami Art Museum, USA, and the Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea. In 2006, the Seattle Art Museum in Washington, USA, held a survey show of his work.
