Ryan McGinley came to New York in 1995 to study graphic design at Parsons School of Design. While at Parsons, Ryan switched to photography and developed the habit of shooting around his lifestyle. Ryan’s life and work lie at the crossroads of hip-hop and graffiti, the East Village gay scene, the art world and the seedy nightlife of his friends. At 24 he was the youngest artist to have a solo show in New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and he won American Photo’s 2003 Photographer of the Year award.
