1928 Paris. France - 1991 Paris. France
Bourdin’s first images were featured in Vogue, Paris, in 1955. He then went on to become one of the most renowned fashion and advertising photographers of the second half of the 20th century. He shared with Helmut Newton a taste for controversy and stylisation, though his formal boldness and the narrative power of his images transcended the boundaries of advertising photography and conventional fashion. In 2003 a retrospective of his work was organised at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, UK, later travelling to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, and Jeu de Paume in Paris, France.
