Julia Margaret Cameron

Cameron became interested in photography at the age of 48. She turned her coal cellar into a makeshift photography laboratory and her children’s room into her studio. Her photography is composed largely of portraits of her friends and family. The romantic painters of her time inspired her allegories, the majority of which are religiously themed.
