Bittencourt spent his youth in New York. He began his career as a photographer in 2000 and was assistant graphic editor at the Brazilian financial magazine Valor Economico. Since 2006 he has worked as a freelance photographer for magazines, advertising agencies and corporate clients. He emphasises the social problems of Brazil and the everyday dramas and urban policies that adversely affect people living in precarious situations.
