Beasly graduated from University Tisch School of the Arts in New York, USA in 1990 , where she started her photographic career working as a printer for Annie Leibovitz. She later worked as a freelancer for the Village Voice, covering New York nightlife. She spent four years photographing exotic dancers, a body of work culminating with the publication of her acclaimed book Lapdancer (Powerhouse, 2003). Her images have been exhibited at the Frieze Art Festival in London, UK; Galerie B.A.N.K. in Paris, France; and the Mannheim-Heidelberg Photography Festival in Germany, among others.
