Bob Adelman is a photographer and a social activist known for his historic coverage of the Civil Rights Movement during the 50s and 60s. The internationally-recognized photojournalist has covered social and political issues for LIFE, The New York Times Magazine, London’s Sunday Times Magazine, Newsweek and numerous other publications. He has published a number of photographic books, including Down Home, detailing the impact of social change on a Faulknerian town; Street Smart, documenting children’s inventive play; The Next America (with Michael Harrington), offering social idealists’ view of the United States; and King: The Photobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. (with Charles Johnson), telling King’s life story in photographs, among others.
