Seoul, South Korea. 1969 Serie: Believing is Seeing. C Action Project.
'I see all in black although I don’t know what black is', a blind boy in this series answered me to my question about what he is seeing. The title of series Believing is Seeing is my ironical answer to the famous western sentence Seeing is Believing in which one requests the material or visual evidence. I asked the blind or almost blind children and teens in Germany to describe how they believe they look like. As they answered me (During an exposure of 30-40 minutes) they could have the opportunity to draw their own faces without seeing. At this time I am only sitting in the room and talking with them. All participated did not have the role as a photographic model, but more artists doing self-portrait with time. I don´t have the intention to prove anything or expect that the viewer understands. And I doubt that I can see more when I open my eyes than when I close them. KYUNGWOO CHUN KYUNGWOO CHUN is part of the C Action project of C Photo. This portfolio earned one of the two grants awarded for each issue of the publication and is published in volume number 6 of the collection.
